Things to be addressed and incorporated

  1. Bereavement pay for nurses and family caregivers

    1. These nurses need an emotional and financial safety net when their patients pass

  2. Appropriate debriefing in cases of death

    1. Should not be done within hours of a death

    2. Should allow the family and “staff” the ability to process the event

    3. Should be done with empathy, as well as an audio/ visual record that those involved can review

  3. Clearing house of resources, services, and programs

  1. DME companies

  2. Hospitals

  3. Nursing agencies

  4. Community organizations

  5. Churches

  6. Private foundations

  7. Pharmacies

  8. Specialized equipment

  9. Community businesses

  1. Address the lack of collaboration between service providers

  2. Partnerships with businesses

    2. Research facilities and their research purposes, accepting deceased loved ones

    3. Case managers, and make sure they know the needed information

    4. Informative in-services to inform the social workers of services being stopped by insurance companies, and of services available.

    5. Appropriate devices to fit the needs of individual problems -

      1. Finding devices best fitting the needs versus equipment reps becoming order takers

    6. Volunteers

Legislative changes to lobby for:

  1. Bereavement programs

  2. Equal community budgets per capita, not per county location

  3. Insurance reimbursement equality for nurses, whether in home or in hospital employment  

Fundraising activities

  1. Hugmas – Christmas time

    1. It has been heartbreaking each time others wish me a merry Christmas

    2. Hugmas is healing because I needed hugs a lot more than Merry Christmas, which broke my heart open each time it was said.

  2. Equipment drive

There will be adjustments as other relevant system gaps are discovered.
